I suspect that the demand is relatively new for this device as most slim drives are designed for laptops and this would be a niche market netboks . At near $20 it is a vastly cheaper alternative to a comparable slim DVD drive asuming you have a spare drive which curently go for $50 and up. The isue is the that amount of power provided by a single USB port is not enough to operate a DVD drive efectively. Utilizing both ̴DC to USB̵ and ̴USB to USB̵ cables should provide adequate power and there should be no USB power surges. Be wary however that some USB ports, particularly those found on the desktop case, are in actuality a USB spliter and therefore canot provide enough power despite having two or more ports. lacie slim dvd rw in Box canyon
